Derek Cherney

I believe that establishing trust with clients is the foundation for creating long-lasting relationships. Having open and honest dialogue will inevitably lead to better collaboration and more favorable outcomes.

Derek is responsible for establishing and strengthening Lincoln’s relationships with private equity firms. He supports financial sponsors by providing new investment ideas and opportunities and by assisting in selling, financing or valuing their existing portfolio companies.

Derek leverages nearly two decades of experience advising on transactions across numerous sectors, including industrials, services, consumer, healthcare and technology. He has worked extensively on both sell-side and buy-side merger and acquisition (M&A) and refinancing transactions. Derek is passionate about helping sponsors and founders find mutually beneficial partnerships to grow their businesses and create value for their investors.

Prior to joining Lincoln, Derek was a Managing Director at TD Cowen, where he led the firm’s middle market financial sponsors practice and also spent time in leveraged finance and debt capital markets. Earlier in his career, he held roles in William Blair’s financial sponsor group, as well as at the Royal Bank of Scotland and CIT Group.

Derek holds a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College.
